Receipt of a NetID does not guarantee Duke mail access. A Duke mail address is netid, with netid replaced by your Duke NetID. Your Duke NetID provides access to an Office 365 mail service, which is a cloud-based implementation of Microsoft Exchange. All issues relating to use of Sociology Email should be directed to departmental IT support staff. A departmental email address is userid, where userid is replaced by your Linux id. 
Sociology provides a secure, reliable IMAP/SMTP-based departmental email service. If you use Duke mail, they are not relevant.
